Match Action:
Tony Hackworth scores the opening goal
Darren Huckerby challenges an Oldham defender for the ball
There was a fine mixture of youth and experience in the Reserve team's penultimate pre-season fixture. The game was evenly poised for the first hour, but evenually the home team's greater experience told. It had started well for United with Darren Huckerby making good ground down the middle before releasing Tony Hackworth, who put United ahead with a low shotfrom the edge of the penalty area after just four minutes. Corazzin headed a centre from Holt narrowly wide with Oldham's swift reponse. In the nineteenth minute Kevin Dixon had a low drive well saved by the Oldham keeper, Kelly. Adams equalised for the home side in the twenty-seventh minute. Both Huckerby and Dixon went close to restoring the Leeds lead before the break. Early in the second half Frazer Richardson and Darren Huckerby both went close. However, it was Oldham that took the lead on the hour when Allott swept home a low centre. David Sherman replaced Jamie McMaster in the seventieth minute and ten minutes later United made a double substitution with Warren Feeney replacing Tony Hackworth and Simon Johnson coming on for Darren Huckerby. Paul Robinson was then called upon to prove his worth as Oldham started to get on top and pulled off two fine saved to deny Corazzin twice, but could not prevent Holt from getting Oldham's third in the final minutes. He did however pull off a fine save from the penalty spot when he dived to his right to deny Corazzin in the last action of the match. Danny Milosevic, Kevin Evans and Alan Martin remained unused on the Leeds bench.
